Invitation

As chair of the organizing committee, it is my pleasure to invite you and your students to beautiful Yarmouth Nova Scotia for the 15th edition of the Yarmouth Karate Challenge Cup. The tournament will take place on Saturday June 3rd and will be held at the Mariners Centre here in Yarmouth. Those of you who have attended the tournament in the last few years know what a superb venue this is. It features a jumbo 20 foot screen to watch the action up close. It has very comfortable seating and full canteen, washroom, and locker room facilities,  It is a spacious venue which will allow us to run 4 rings to ensure we are done in a timely manner. Also, as in the past few years,  the competition will be televised on local Eastlink TV and live streamed for our friends around the globe.

The tournament itself will feature competition for all ages from a newly formatted ninja turtle divisions through to adult and 35 + divisions. Also, back by popular demand, we will have demonstrations including Kata, bunkai, and weapons. New this year is a “King of the Ring” division for boys and girls ages 12-15.

David Griffin Sensei  will kick things off on Friday evening with a referee clinic. Griffin Sensei is the highest qualified official in eastern Canada having achieved certification at the world level. This promises to be a very informative clinic and all new and experienced officials are encouraged to attend. Also on Friday evening Mitchell German Sensei will be conducting a kumite clinic for athletes 12 and older. German Sensei is an accomplished competitor in his own right and very successful and multi-time Canadian National coach of the year. Any serious kumite competitors are encouraged to attend. Both clinics will run from 7-9 pm at the Mariners Centre.

Saturday evening, following the completion of the tournament, everyone is invited to join us at Rodd Grand Hotel for the Karate Nova Scotia Awards Banquet. The brightest and best athletes as well as those who support our sport will be honored. You can sit back and enjoy the great food that Southwest Nova Scotia has to offer as you take in all the festivities.

To cap it all off, on Sunday morning, Karen Armour current Canadian National Team Coach will be leading a team type training session for anyone 10 years and up who would like to experience what team training is all about. Everyone is welcome to this session young and old alike.
