Hi All,

Many thanks to those of you who were able to attend the fantastic sessions on Positive Coaching, Video Performance Analysis and Kumite training for top performers. There has been lots of practical guidance provided from which all coaches can benefit – and the final session of this VKO series promises to be just as great!

We are absolutely delighted to have Dale Gamble and Tony Dent (both WKF referees) presenting the 4th VKO session on Refereeing. Dale and Tony’s attached biographies demonstrate their outstanding ability and leadership in refereeing and their development. They are both world-class talents

and this is a session not to be missed.

During the VKO pilot this was one of the most popular sessions – giving coaches a deeper understanding of the rules and what the top referees look for in kata and kumite, will lead to better performance for their athletes.

Please distribute this invite to all your associations and encourage attendance by both male and female coaches and competitors.

Key points to note are:

  • This session is predominantly aimed at coaching coaches and referees but we’re sure competitors will also benefit greatly from it. Feel free to invite people you think would benefit from the session.
  • questions can be submitted using virtualkarateoutreach@gmail.com
  • The session will be carried out using Zoom and will comprise 60mins of presentation and 30mins of questions. This is a fantastic opportunity for your coaches to put their questions directly to Dale & Tony
  • Alternatively, questions can be submitted using virtualkarateoutreach@gmail.com
  • The same session will be carried out twice during the day. This aims to provide suitable timeslots that allow attendance from across the whole Commonwealth.
  • Links to the recording of Dale & Tony’s sessions will be posted on CKF’s Facebook shortly after on https//www.facebook.com/commonwealthkaratefederation/

Tony started his karate training in 1974 in Wado Ryu under the overall tutelage of Suzuki Sensei. He still trains with my original instructor from those days, Sensei John Moreton, former GB International from the 1970’s. Tony runs 2 clubs in his hometown of Hull, both of which belong to John Moreton’s Wado UK Association. He began his domestic competition officiating journey in 1991, moving to International competition in 2008 in Maribor Slovenia. He now assists Dale Gamble with his duties as Chief Referee within England, GB and the Commonwealth.
