This is for all kata athletes who are trying out for the team. Training is from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Nationals will be held in Quebec this year at the end of February or beginning of March 2017 (the exact date should be announced in the next few weeks).
In order to compete at Nationals an athlete must be at least 12 years of age by August 2017 (the exact cut off date will be announced once we know it). We are looking forward to seeing some new 11-13 years olds.
Kata workouts are open workouts so if anyone (11 years and up) is interested in seeing what it is like to train with the team you are welcome to attend. An Open workout includes those athletes who might not be ready to be on the team but want the experience.
Dojo Coach’s are encouraged to attend! We also encourage participation from athletes in other Atlantic Provinces who want more opportunities to train.
Practices will be held at the Windsor Dojo until further notice. We will be following the same schedule which we used at previous training sessions. I would like to remind all candidates to take heed of the following points.
1) Make yourself familiar with the rules: ie cannot repeat Kata, what constitutes a foul and or DQ
2) Uniform: consider obtaining a heavier style gi more suitable for Kata competition. Also know what the rules with respect to what is an acceptable gi: ie “trousers must not reach below the ankle”
3) Extra training is important. Take advantage of every opportunity for training extra classes. Doing the minimum will not suffice.
